Become a Solver

Why become a Solver?

This video was originally created as a winning solution to an InnoCentive Challenge. It was created by a Solver and we have recreated it with updated images but retaining the original Solver’s concept.

You could help solve the World's greatest challenges

Become a solver and you will:

Change the World

Solvers have contributed to tackling some of the world’s most pressing problems, from facilitating access to clean water at a household level to passive solar devices designed to attract & kill malaria-carrying mosquitos.

Promote Yourself and Earn Rewards

We’ve awarded more than $40 million to thousands of brilliant Solvers from around the world. The average award amount for a Challenge is around $20,000 but some offer awards of over $100,000 or more. But it’s not just about the financial reward, your accomplishment is guaranteed to attract attention on your CV or social profile.

Unparalleled Mental Test

Challenges are real problems requiring sustained concentration, critical thinking, research, creativity, and synthesis of knowledge. Developing a solution is incredibly rewarding and an unparalleled mental workout.

Here's how it works:

  • Visit our Challenge Center and find an open Challenge you think you can tackle.
  • Login or register to see the full details of the Challenge and open a Project Room. You will also need to accept the Challenge Specific Agreement (CSA) and our Terms of Use. Find out more about CSAs and Project Rooms here.
  • Develop your solution. The required deliverables will be specified in the Challenge description and can range from written proposals to prototypes. If you have any questions, you can message the InnoCentive team via your Project Room.
  • Submit your solution before the Challenge deadline. Only InnoCentive and the Seeker for that Challenge can view your solution.
  • After the Challenge deadline, the Seeker will evaluate your submission. Once this stage is completed, you will be notified via email as to whether or not your submission has been selected for an award. For Theoretical and RTP Challenges, you will also receive feedback on your submission from the Seeker.

Solver Stories

  • Solvers are at the heart of everything we do, supplying the innovative solutions to organizations’ problems and needs.
  • Read some of stories from our amazing Solvers in our book ‘One Smart Crowd’
  • The book is dedicated to the unsung heroes that offer their wisdom and experience to solve challenges, not for recognition, but to explore, learn, develop and contribute to something bigger and play a role in something significant.
This book is a celebration and recognition of the incredible capacity of the global human mind to solve complex innovation challenges. Open Innovation and crowdsourcing deliver collective impact through collective intelligence, giving access to a global talent pool and truly enabling innovation at scale like never before. This book is living proof of the importance of diversity of thinking, perspective, and skills in finding solutions and driving innovation outcomes. The first-person perspective and opportunity to look at the story behind each of the incredible Solvers contained in the book, demonstrates how the global crowd can and will generate the most valuable and impactful innovations and solutions and that expertise can come in many different forms and from many different places. These are exciting times for innovation. It’s time to innovate the way you innovate and tap into One Smart Crowd. For the past 15 years, I have witnessed the incredible breakthroughs that InnoCentive has uncovered through their incredible 500,000-person strong solver network. They have helped make huge advances in medicine, space travel, oil spill clean-up, and so much more. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. By connecting the brightest minds with the biggest problems, this crowd can and will generate the most valuable and impactful solutions.
